BlogSprucefest is Back, Y’all! - Jackalope Brewing Company

October 10, 2018by Jackalope Lisa

Sprucefest is back, y’all! For the 6th consecutive year, Jackalope will be celebrating the release of Spruce Beersteen, a Black IPA brewed with spruce tips. We like tradition here at Jackalope, so since we’ve been sharing this tradition with all of you for 6 years now, we wanted to give you a little history lesson on this beer and why it’s important to us. According to the Beer Connoisseur, some credit for the idea of using spruce tips in beer can possibly be given to the Native Americans, who initially used spruce in brewing because it is a natural source of vitamin C. Rock on!

Brewmaster, co-founder, and long-time Bruce Springsteen fan, Bailey Spaulding, started Spruce Beersteen as a homebrew batch for her 29th birthday, and, since then, the tradition of the beer and Bailey’s fandom has only grown. Spruce Beersteen is brewed with black malt ands midnight wheat, and is then dry hopped with piney hops and spruce tips that are harvested in the Spring and stored air-tight and frozen until brewing begins. The brewers absolutely do listen to an array of Bruce songs while brewing this beer, per Bailey’s request, including her number one Springsteen pick, “The Incident on 57th Street.” Instead of seeing Bruce live for the 9th time, Bailey will join the masses on Friday, October 12th for Sprucefest, where BEast Street Band will be playing Springsteen songs starting at 6 P.M., so put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty, and meet us all down at the Ranch to boogie!
